Reminder to look after vacant land

As the weather slowly starts warming up, Wyndham City reminds landowners with vacant land to look after their lot and ensure it is safe for the summer.

Overgrown grass and weeds can create a fire hazard and make properties look unkempt. In addition, tall grass and weeds can provide hiding places for pests.

Maintaining vacant land is easy and can be done with a few simple steps:

  • Cutting grass regularly. A lawnmower or whipper snipper can help keep grass and weeds under control and under a maximum height of 150mm.
  • Removing debris and rubbish. Litter and debris can attract pests and create an eyesore.
  • Installing temporary fencing around the property to stop rubbish from being left on your land.

Wyndham City Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre said: “Keeping your land clean and safe goes a long way toward helping us create liveable and loveable neighbourhoods.”

“La Nina has brought above-average rainfall this year, which makes maintaining your vacant land even more important.”

“Residents can save time and money by proactively maintaining their vacant land. Hiring a contractor to help and diarising dates for maintenance are two ways to keep on top of taking care of your property.”
