Rescue of woman from Mt Murchison underway

A search and rescue team are currently conducting a rescue of a 19-year-old Rosebery woman from a walking track near the summit of Mt Murchison in the states West.

Around 1.40pm yesterday, emergency services received a Triple Zero call from the woman who had suffered a medical condition while hiking with a 20-year-old man.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched but due to the adverse weather conditions on the mountain was unable to reach the pair.

A search and rescue walking team were deployed and reached the pair around 8.30pm last night, with further rescuers, including members from the State Emergency Service, reaching the party around 10pm.

Due to the adverse weather conditions, including significant wind and rain, all parties remained on the mountain overnight.

Around 7am this morning a further rescue team including SES members, were dispatched to assist with the rescue. When the additional rescue team reaches the party, the rescue will commence through the rough and rugged terrain.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter is on standby waiting for a break in the unstable weather condition on the mountain to assist with the rescue if conditions permit.
