Residents evacuated after fire starts in unit carpark at Guildford, NSW

Residents had to be evacuated after fire broke out in the basement of a unit block in Guildford overnight.

Emergency services were called to the two-storey block on Marian Street about 11.50pm (Sunday 25 October 2020), after smoke was seen coming from the basement carpark.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command moved about 20 people – many of them children – from their units as a precaution while officers from Fire and Rescue NSW worked to contain the blaze.

It’s believed the fire started when a car caught fire in the basement carpark; police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact Granville Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
