New state-wide guidelines launched by Merri-bek City Council will empower small business owners to open their doors sooner.
Merri-bek Mayor Angelica Panopoulos said the Open for Business Guidelines will help business owners navigate through permit requirements, with regulations grouped by industry, rather than regulator.
“These guidelines are the first of their kind in Australia. I’m excited to see Merri-bek businesses equip themselves with the information they need to hang their open sign as soon as they’re ready,” Cr Panopoulos said.
“Ultimately, these materials will support small businesses across Victoria and stimulate local economies, by empowering people with great business ideas who may not be used to navigating confusing permit systems.”
“For example, if you’re looking to open a live music venue, you can find out about building approvals, footpath trading, liquor licences and noise control all in one place. It’s a fantastic resource and I encourage prospective business owners to check it out on our website.”
The materials are supported by an explainer video and advertising campaign across cinemas, print and digital media.
This project was undertaken as part of a six-council partnership with Stonnington, Port Phillip, Greater Shepparton, Yarra and Hobsons Bay, and was funded through the Victorian Government’s Regulatory Reform Incentive Fund (RRIF).
Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor, Cr Sali said “Greater Shepparton City Council is proud to have partnered in this new project to further assist the growth and expansion of our business community, making it easier for businesses to understand and navigate the permit processes so they can start building and operating as quickly as possible.”
