Healthy relationships are about respecting each other as equals and breaking free from outdated gender stereotypes and assumptions.
Too often, these outdated stereotypes and assumptions (like men are strong and women are weak) inform our relationships and may lead to disrespect and violence against women. They also have a negative impact on the health and wellbeing of men and contribute to high rates of suicide, depression and anxiety.
In the lead up to 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence against women, we are joining with other local councils in supporting our community in understanding what respect means, what it looks like and how to put it into practice by hosting ‘Conversations that matter: an evening for men’.
Facilitated by Tomorrow Man and with special guest Collingwood Football Club Captain Darcy Moore, this event will give participants tools and skills to improve their mental health and to build stronger connections between one another and those they care about.
We invite men and male-identifying people to join in this safe and welcoming space, where we will engage in meaningful conversation to explore how they can better look after themselves, their partners, their friends and their community.
We can create healthy and respectful relationships by learning how to challenge harmful gender assumptions in a safe and supportive way.
