Restrictions eased in Queensland

Some restrictions will ease in Queensland this week following the Queensland community working together to flatten the curve.

As of 12:01am, Saturday, May 2, Queenslanders will be able to leave their homes for recreational activities, such as the activities below; whilst continuing to practice social distancing.

  • Go for a drive for non-essential purposes;
  • Ride a motorbike, jetski or boat for recreation;
  • Have a picnic;
  • Visit a national park;
  • Shop for non-essential items.

The eased restrictions have the following three conditions;

  • You must stay within 50km of your principle residence.
  • You must practice social distancing and stay 1.5 metres from others and hygiene must be maintained.
  • You must only be joined by the people who usually live in your household or one other person who doesn’t live with you

Members of the public can continue travelling outside the 50km radius from their principle residence for essential purposes only.

Queenslanders can expect high visibility policing across the state, particularly beaches and parks.

State Disaster Coordinator Steve Gollschewski said that the reason why Queensland is achieving promising outcomes is because of what measures we have put in place, not in spite of them.

“Although some restrictions are beginning to be eased, this is not a time to be complacent.

“It is everyone’s responsibility to understand and listen to the Queensland public health directions and follow them closely,

“Police will continue to patrol public spaces and residential areas to ensure there are no large gatherings and people are following the social- distancing rules.”
