To reduce the spread of COVID-19 within South Australia, State Coordinator – Commissioner of Police Grant Stevens has made a direction under the Emergency Management Act 2004, to help reduce the risk to some of the more vulnerable people in our community.

Direction is provided how often family and friends may visit an aged care facility for the purposes of providing care and support to the resident.

Importantly, a resident of a residential aged care facility who leaves the premises for any reason not related to medical or dental treatment of the resident after this direction commences operation is prohibited from re-entering those premises.

There are full details on the SAPOL website relating to when and who can enter the premises of a residential aged care facility in the state of South Australia.

These are extensive and for anyone in this situation it is IMPERATIVE that you read the full information on this.

Furthermore, an operator of a residential aged care facility in the State of South Australia must take all reasonable steps to ensure that a person does not enter or remain on the premises of the residential aged care facility if the person is prohibited from doing so.

It is an offence to breach this direction.
