Retail lease legislation review

Elise Archer,Minister for Building and Construction

Tasmanians with an interest in retail lease arrangements are being asked to provide submissions to a comprehensive review of Tasmania’s retail lease legislation.

Other states and territories have been updating their retail lease legislation after a major review of retail tenancy leases in Australia conducted by the Productivity Commission.

There is now an opportunity to streamline and modernise the Tasmanian legislation while providing greater protections for both landlords and tenants.

The discussion paper seeks views on the matters to be included in retail leases, rights of tenants, and complaint and dispute resolution processes.

Submissions to the Tasmanian review are invited from anyone with an interest, including tenants leasing retail space, those in shopping centres, landlords, building owners and managers, and professionals who give advice about retail leases.
