Rice to open national security research accelerator lab

Rice University will webcast the Oct. 30 opening ceremony for laboratories of the Rice University National Security Research Accelerator (RUNSRA).

Launched in 2019 with support from U.S. Army Futures Command and the Army Research Laboratory, RUNSRA will enhance national security by accelerating the discovery, development and transition of technologies into military and civilian applications through scientific and engineering collaborations with academia, business, industry and government partners.

Who: Speakers will include Rice President David Leebron; Rice Provost Reggie DesRoches; U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas; and Lt. Gen. Thomas Todd III, Army Futures Command.

What: Opening ceremony for RUNSRA laboratories conducting research on advanced materials and next-generation networks that will increase the future capabilities of the Army. Rice and the Army established a five-year, $30 million cooperative agreement in 2019 to support transformative research and deliver discoveries into technologies that meet Army modernization goals.

When: 10-11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30.
