Road Safety Operation At Gold Coast

More than 460 roadside breath tests were conducted in an overnight road safety operation, in the lead up to Easter, resulting in 10 drink drivers and 5 drug drivers. The highest reading for alcohol was 0.164.

Officers from Gold Coast Highway Patrol also issued 10 traffic infringement notices (TINs), conducted 12 roadside drug tests as well as completed a number of vehicle inspections as part of the road safety operation.

A Mobile Police Facility was also deployed.

A 43-year-old male was stopped for being unlicensed and following the search of his vehicle a quantity of drugs was located.

Acting Inspector Brad Rix said these operations are an essential reminder to motorists to expect police anywhere, anytime.

“This year’s road toll mirrors the figures from the previous year, and we want to do everything we can to prevent that number from rising, especially as we approach the Easter holidays, a time when road traffic typically increases.

“In the Gold Coast Police District, there have been 3 people who have lost their lives in road crashes so far this year. This is 3 too many.

“No matter where you are on Queensland roads, drivers must remember that their decisions count. Watch your speed, don’t drive while under the influence, take regular breaks if you’re travelling for long periods, don’t use your phone and wear your seatbelt.

“If you drink, drive, or drug drive, you will be charged, you will go before a court and you will lose your licence,” said Acting Inspector Rix.

Road safety remains a priority for Gold Coast Police. Please drive responsibly and keep yourself, your passengers, and all other road users safe.
