Rosebery Town Centre Upgrade: Bayside

Bayside Council will plant over 76 new trees along Gardeners Road, between Maloney Street and Sutherland Street, Rosebery as part of a planned upgrade to revitalize the local shopping strip.

Work, due to start in May, will include replacing the existing pavers with new high quality honed concrete pavers, new street furniture, landscaping, and the new street trees.

“Council will invest over $1.2 million to revitalise the shopping strip which is looking very tired and dated,” Mayor Dr Curry said.

“This area includes many small family-run businesses, as well as being a commercial hub for our growing Rosebery community. It is also home to the heritage listed Lakes Hotel and Marina Theatre.

“The tree component valued at $50,000 will be funded from the Community and Environment Projects Reserve Fund which was set up in 2018 in partnership with Sydney Airport to fund a variety of community and environmentally focused projects over the next 10 years,” Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

Mayor Dr Curry said in keeping with the greening of Gardeners Road being funded from a community fund, the trees would be purchased from the Bayside Garden Centre, which is a joint venture between Council and the Intellectually Disability Foundation of St George that provides meaningful employee for those with an intellectual disability.

It is anticipated the works will be completed by September.
