Ross Lane Safety Upgrades starting in March: Ballina Shire

Ross Lane Safety Upgrades starting in March

Ballina Shire Council wishes to advise that the next stage of safety upgrades to Ross Lane will commence from Monday 11 March 2024 and continue until the end of June 2024, weather and site conditions permitting.

As part of Transport for NSW’s Safer Roads Program, Council has been upgrading Ross Lane and Byron Bay Road to improve safety for motorists and cyclists. Stage 1 was completed last year, now Stages 2 and 3 will commence between the Newrybar Drain and Pacific Highway.

The works include shoulder widening, clear zone improvements, chevron alignment markers, improved curve signage, non-skid road surface treatments, painted and raised median.

What to expect:

  • At times, sections of Ross Lane will be reduced to one lane with stop/slow traffic control in place.
  • Speed limit will be reduced to 40km/h through work zones.
  • Access to Lennox Head and the M1 will be maintained at all times.

Every effort will be made to reduce traffic impacts however delays are expected. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and, if possible, use an alternative route.

Council thanks the community for the patience and understanding as these upgrades are completed.

Ross Lane Bridge and Road Raising

The current road safety upgrades on Ross Lane are separate to the Ross Lane Bridge Construction and Road Raising project, which is being funded through the Regional Roads and Transport Recovery Program (RRTRP). This project is in the early planning stage.
