Roundtable charts a way forward for East Devonport community

Guy Barnett, Minister for Health

Minister for Health, Guy Barnett, hosted a roundtable meeting in Devonport this morning with health and community stakeholders to discuss the merger of the East Devonport medical practice with SmartClinic Devonport.

Meeting attendees included Mayor Alison Jarman, Better Medical State Operations Manager Brett McPherson, local pharmacist Terry Travers, DoH Director Health Planning Hannah Paal, Primary Health Tasmania CEO Phil Edmondson, HR+ CEO Peter Barnes, Health Consumers Tasmania CEO Bruce Levett, former EDMC co-owner Dr Bryn Parry and members of the East Devonport community.

The group agreed to meet again in mid-December following further work on options and solutions.

“It is disappointing that there was no federal representation at the roundtable, given GP clinics becoming financially unviable lies at the feet of the Federal Government,” said Mr Barnett.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government continues to work proactively with the community and health representatives and will continue to do so.

“Having access to general practitioners is crucial for the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians.

“This was a constructive meeting between East Devonport community members, stakeholders and decision-makers to focus on solutions rather than problems, providing the community with access to the right healthcare, in the right place, at the right time.

“We are focussed on delivering real action, and are working with our health stakeholders and the community.”
