The below is an update on the unfolding situation at RSPCA WA, as the bushfire in Perth’s north-east continues to threaten lives and homes.
RSPCA WA’s Animal Care Centre in Malaga remains on bushfire advice alert. Because of the possibility of evacuation from our shelter, we have been unable to offer emergency boarding for animals from evacuated or lost houses to date. We will review this once the threat to our Animal Care Centre passes.
RSPCA WA’s representative on the Committee for Animal Welfare in Emergencies was present at the incident management centre in Mundaring yesterday and our inspectorate and animal services representatives are taking part in the State Recovery Coordination Group. They will offer whatever assistance RSPCA WA can provide to animals in need – as we always have.
We have taken in an injured cat found in the fire zone which is receiving medical treatment. If you find an animal that is injured, please contact the Shire of Mundaring or the City of Swan, who will inform the team of vets on site in the bushfire zone. As with previous bushfires, RSPCA WA will be able to help care for those who are lost or abandoned and need rehabilitation and longer-term treatment.

Our thoughts go out to those affected by this fire and our heartfelt thanks to those battling the blaze. In particular, as an organisation of animal lovers, the impact on pets, livestock and wildlife has been heartbreaking to see.
