SA Public Sector employees deliver ‘YES’ vote for new pay deal

South Australia’s largest cohort of public sector employees has voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Government’s Enterprise Agreement offer, in a move that locks in pay rises of 1.5 per cent per annum over the next three years.

A ballot of over 40,000 eligible SA Public Sector Salaried employees resulted in 84 per cent of employees who returned a ballot voting in favour of the agreement.

Treasurer Rob Lucas welcomed the result as a resounding vote of confidence in the Marshall Liberal Government’s continued investment in the state’s hardworking public sector workforce.

“We are delighted that our hardworking public sector salaried employees have voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Government’s Enterprise Agreement offer, which gives exceptionally fair and reasonable salary increases and employment conditions,” said Mr Lucas.

“Throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic, our public sector employees have stepped up to ensure the South Australian public sector continues to deliver great results and outcomes for the entire South Australian community.

“Many within our public sector workforce have been on the frontline of our COVID-19 response, and deserve our thanks for their tireless work, often in trying circumstances.

“This agreement is the culmination of respectful negotiations between all parties, and will ensure SA is well-placed to continue our strong recovery from the global pandemic.”

The South Australian Public Sector Enterprise Agreement: Salaried 2021 provides for four pay rises of 1.5 per cent (August 2021, August 2022, August 2023 and August 2024).

There is also a $1,000 one-off payment (pro-rata for part-time employees) for employees employed at the date of approval of the agreement in the South Australian Employment Tribunal, which is in recognition of the fact that these employees have not had a pay rise in two years.
