The City is boosting its support for seniors through dedicated information sessions about avoiding on-line scams, personal safety and home security.
Mayor Tom Tate said the Mayoral Safer Suburbs Forum was today briefed on the latest measures aimed at protecting our 100,000 senior citizens*. (*aged 65 and over)
“The forum was established in 2013 and brings together all relevant agencies with an interest in safety across our city,” he said.
“The dedicated sessions will be held at various locations across the city and are free to all seniors.
“This is about being proactive and giving seniors the tools and confidence they need to feel safe in their community so they can stay active and connected.
“I expect hundreds of seniors will take up this free offer.”
Six Seniors Safety Sessions will be held between now and June with the first session on 14 March at the Upper Coomera Centre. To register, visit cityofgoldcoast.com.au/communitydevelopment
By 2036, there will be 175,000 seniors on the coast – around 20 percent of the city’s population.
To support seniors, the City also:
- Offers recharge points for mobility scooters
- Supports free seniors bus travel
- Provides low cost transport via Council Cab service
- Provides free and low cost active and healthy activities
- Provides a range of programs and resources in City Libraries
- Provides grants for Seniors Week events
- Holds a free annual Mayor’s Seniors Week concert
- Offers pensioner discounts and concessions on rates and dog registration.
