Safety upgrades at the Warrego Highway and Brimblecombe Road intersection have been completed.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the $2.75 million project had been welcomed by the community.
“The project involved widening the intersection and installing a dedicated, right-turn lane for eastbound vehicles turning into Brimblecombe Road, allowing them to safely move out of the flow of through traffic,” Mr Joyce said.
“The turning lane allows vehicles to safely stop and wait for a gap in traffic before making the right turn.
“The upgraded intersection is a welcome sight for a community which has been devastated by crashes here in the past few years.”
Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said despite heavy rainfall late last year, the project finished on schedule.
“Major construction on this project wrapped just before Christmas, and some minor touches this month will see this project wrap up for good,” Mr Bailey said.
“The improvements will reduce the risk of repeating the tragic rear-end crashes we’ve seen in the past.
“This project builds on our commitment to the Darling Downs region, with more than $664 million in projects to be delivered in the region as part of our $27.5 billion road and transport plan.
“The Palaszczuk Government is building big for Queenslanders, and this project is just another example of that.”
Federal Member for Groom Garth Hamilton said the upgrades would improve safety and efficiency for all road users.
“Thank you to everyone in the community for their patience while we delivered these important works,” Mr Hamilton said.
“The Australian Government is investing in the road upgrades Queenslanders need and deserve, to keep motorists moving and safe on our roads.”
This project was jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments on an 80:20 basis.
