Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal Launch

The Salvation Army Launches Red Shield Appeal in Sydney

More than 600 business leaders will gather together today in Sydney to help launch The Salvation Army’s 2019 Red Shield Appeal.

This year’s Appeal will aim to raise $79 million in donations from across Australia, with today’s launch expected to raise more than $1 million.

Special guests at today’s launch will include panellists Ben Fordham and Joe Hildebrand, with Georgie Gardner acting as Master of Ceremonies.

The NSW Government will kick off the Red Shield Appeal by announcing a donation of $200,000.

Salvation Army spokesperson Major Paul Moulds said the Red Shield Appeal is the lifeblood of The Salvation Army.

“Every day, the Salvos live, love and fight for the needs of our community,” Major Moulds said.

“We can only do this because, year after year, Australians come together to give hope where it’s needed most. Please donate or volunteer for this year’s appeal because no one should go it alone.”

Over the past 12 months, the Salvos have supported more than 38,000 people experiencing homelessness, 14,000 people overcoming addiction, provided over 50,000 financial counselling sessions, given care to 5,000 people experiencing family violence, and assisted more than 150,000 people with emergency relief.

“The Red Shield Appeal ensures that we can continue to keep our doors open and support many thousands of Australians right across the country who are doing it tough,” Major Moulds said.

The Salvation Army has a long history of helping Australians in need. For more than 135 years, the Salvos in Australia have been committed to helping those doing it tough.

The Red Shield Appeal Sydney launch is one of the key events on The Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal calendar, culminating with the doorknock weekend on 25-26 May.

The 2019 Red Shield Appeal Sydney launch is made possible with the generous support of our principal sponsor JLL and Steadfast.
