Students and teachers at five schools are moving into new classrooms and facilities on the first day of Term 2, as the NSW Government’s record $6.5 billion investment continues to rollout 190 new and upgraded schools across the State.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell today visited Russell Lea Public School to inspect the new facilities opening at the school after a major redevelopment.
“In 2017 we announced the project here at Russell Lea to deliver a new school for 600 students including 24 new classrooms, a new library, a new canteen and a new hall,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“Now we can see the final product, with students returning to a world-class school that will benefit the inner-west community for generations to come.”
Upgrades at Ingleburn High School, Claremont Meadows Public School, Hurlstone Agricultural High School and Penrith Public School have also been completed in time for Term 2.
Ms Mitchell said the NSW Government is committed to ensuring every child in NSW has access to top-quality education facilities.
“Today is yet another example of the NSW Government getting on with the job of delivering its record $6.5 billion investment in public school infrastructure,” Ms Mitchell said.
“Russell Lea Public School is the 22nd public school to open so far in 2019, after 17 new and upgraded schools opened their doors to students in time for Term 1.”
Member for Drummoyne John Sidoti has welcomed the new Russell Lea Public School.
“This is a special day for both teachers and students at Russell Lea and this is another example of the NSW Government delivering for our local community,” Mr Sidoti said.
The NSW Government’s record investment in new and upgraded schools is on top of the $1.3 billion to wipe the existing school maintenance backlog to zero and the $500 million Cool Classrooms Program to provide air conditioning to more classrooms than ever before.
