Construction has commenced on major upgrades at Westmead Public School, Newington Public School and Wentworth Point High School, delivering permanent learning spaces, modern facilities and improved sporting infrastructure for growing communities.
Construction is underway on major upgrades across the Parramatta region as the Minns Labor Government continues rebuilding public education for Western Sydney communities.
Major upgrades at Westmead Public School, Newington Public School and Wentworth Point High School will together see the delivery of ageing demountables replaced with permanent, state-of-the-art classrooms, new sports courts, multipurpose hall and modern facilities to support future growth.
At Westmead Public School, the major upgrade will deliver four new permanent classrooms, three support learning classrooms and a new multipurpose hall.
The upgrade, set to be complete by Day 1, Term 1 2028, will see all demountables removed and additional play space returned to students.
Nearby, Newington Public School has operated significantly above its permanent capacity for more than a decade, with demountables taking up valuable play space across the site. A new, two-storey building will deliver 10 permanent classrooms, four special program spaces and new student amenities.
The upgrade is set to be completed by late 2027, allowing for the removal of demountables and for the school’s permanent capacity to be lifted by almost 200 places.
After opening its doors to local students on Day 1, Term 1 2025, construction has commenced on the second stage of Wentworth Point High School. Stage 2 will deliver a multipurpose hall with an indoor sports court, new courtyard and landscaping, and two outdoor sports courts.
Construction will be carefully staged to maintain student access to school facilities, with completion expected in late 2027.
Across the state, the NSW Government is investing a record $9.2 billion in school infrastructure over the next four years as part of the 2026-27 NSW Budget, including $4.1 billion for new and upgraded schools across Western Sydney.
This investment stands in stark contrast to the former Liberal National government, which allowed schools to become increasingly dependent on ageing demountables and failed to deliver the permanent infrastructure needed.
There is more to do, but the Minns Labor Government is getting on with the job of rebuilding public education across Western Sydney.
