Schools in at Territory Labor Government’s $30 million Zuccoli Primary School

The Territory’s newest school is officially open, with the first students of Zuccoli Primary School joining 45,000 other NT students in returning to the classroom this week.

The $12.6 million first stage of the Palmerston primary school, comprising a preschool and eight primary school classrooms for students in preschool to Year 4, opened this morning.

The $18.04 million second stage is under construction and due to open in Term 1, 2021.

Once fully operational, the $30 million government school will have capacity for 432 primary students and 88 preschoolers.

Preschool enrolments have reached capacity this year.

The Territory Labor Government fast-tracked construction of the new government school last year to cater for enrolment demand in Palmerston, the NT’s fastest growing region.

This week is the first week of the 2020 school year for the Territory’s 34,000 government school students and 11,000 non-government school students.

Urban government schools resume today, while remote students return tomorrow.

As noted by Minister for Education, Selena Uibo.

“The Territory Labor Government fast-tracked construction of the Zuccoli Primary School because, unlike the CLP, we heard loudly and clearly that the residents of this area needed a new government school.

“This $30 million project will significantly ease enrolment pressures in neighbouring schools in Bakewell and Rosebery and will provide a contemporary learning space that will serve the children of Palmerston for generations.

“Unlike the CLP, who slashed $135 million from the education budget, cut teachers and raised the cost of living for families, the Territory Labor Government will always invest in our children, because it’s not just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do for our future.”

As noted by Member for Drysdale, Eva Lawler.

“Palmerston is the Northern Territory’s fastest growing region and only the Territory Labor Government can be trusted to deliver for Palmerston families.

“The new Zuccoli Primary School is an investment in Palmerston’s most important asset: it’s children.

“We have invested in Palmerston’s future to create jobs and opportunities for families in the local community and delivered a facility that will be used by Palmerston families for many years to come.”

As noted by Member for Brennan, Tony Sievers.

“The people of Palmerston told us loudly and clearly they needed a new government primary school. We listened and we delivered.

“We have built a new police station, are constructing a new fire station and now have this wonderful new school for our Zuccoli children.

“Under our government, these investments support our thriving population and have made Palmerston a truly family friendly city.”
