Police are appealing for information regarding a car fire in Prahran in April which appears to be linked to a fatal shooting in which two men were killed outside a night club in the same suburb.
Detectives investigating the 14 April shooting, in which two men were killed and four other people were injured, have obtained information about a silver Suzuki Swift that was seen on the night travelling in convoy with a black Porsche SUV that has already been linked to the shooting.
The Suzuki was last sighted in Simmonds Street, South Yarra prior to the shooting.
Shortly before 12.30am on 17 April, emergency services were called to the street following reports of a vehicle on fire.
A Suzuki parked there had been set alight, however no one was injured.
Investigators now believe that offenders set fire to the wrong vehicle, with the damaged Suzuki and its Queensland owners ruled out of any involvement with the shooting.
A second silver Suzuki Swift parked in Simmons Street has been seized for forensic testing.
That testing remains ongoing.
Police have been told that two men wearing dark clothing were seen getting out of a blue Holden Colorado ute on Simmonds Street shortly before the car fire.
That vehicle then drove off towards Surrey Road, South Yarra.
Detectives are today releasing CCTV of the silver Suzuki Swift and the blue Holden Colorado ute, and the footage of the Swift shows it travelling with the black Porsche.
They are also releasing images showing the car fire on Simmonds Street.
Last week police released footage of a maroon Ford ute they are searching for after it was in the Wollert area following the arson of a black Porsche SUV linked to the shooting.
The black Porsche was located burned out on Highpark Drive, Wollert just before 4am on 14 April.
The maroon Ford ute is yet to be recovered and investigators are continuing to appeal for anyone with knowledge of it’s current whereabouts or information about who owns the vehicle to come forward.
Investigators are still following up a number of lines of enquiry to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting and what had led to it occurring.
