Search operation underway for missing swimmer – Byron Bay

A search is underway for a swimmer last seen at a Byron Bay beach today.

About 3pm (Saturday 16 September 2023), emergency services were called to Tallow Beach at Byron Bay, following reports a man had reportedly entered the water and seen in distress before failing to resurface.

Officers attached to Tweed/Byron Police District arrived and immediately commenced a search for the man.

The search involves local police as well as Surf Lifesavers, Marine Rescue NSW, and a Queensland rescue helicopter.

Police are appealing for anyone who might have seen the man around this time, he is described as being of Caucasian appearance and aged in his 50s. He was last seen in light coloured board shorts.
