Search underway after overturned kayak located at Port Kembla, NSW

Emergency services have commenced a search after an overturned kayak was located near Port Kembla this morning.

About 8.30am today (Saturday 21 November 2020), a member of the public sighted an overturned kayak and flotation bag in the water near Olympic Boulevard at Port Kembla.

Officers from Wollongong Police District were contacted and commenced inquiries into the incident.

The kayak and flotation bag – containing car keys – were retrieved from the water.

A search of the area is now underway to locate the owner of the kayak, with assistance from the Marine Area Command, PolAir and Surf Life Saving NSW.

The kayak is described as being white and blue in colour.
