A second person has been charged following an extensive investigation into the shooting of a man in Wollongong earlier this year.
Just before 9pm on Tuesday 24 March 2020, a 50-year-old man entered a stairwell of a unit complex on Market Street, and was approached by two men who were allegedly armed with a hammer and firearm.
As the 50-year-old man attempted to walk past the pair, they allegedly assaulted him, before he was shot in the leg. The two men ran from the complex and fled the scene in a vehicle parked nearby.
The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment to a bullet wound to his knee.
Officers from Wollongong Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
After an extensive investigation, a 21-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to the incident on Friday 12 June 2020. He remains before the courts.
Following further inquiries, a 35-year-old man was arrested during a vehicle stop at Unanderra earlier today (Sunday 20 September 2020).
The Warrawong man was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; and attempted aggravated break/enter commit indictable offence.
He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Monday 21 September 2020).
