Global events are impacting fuel supply chains across the world. The Australian government is taking action to address this fuel supply disruption.
These actions include:
- a temporary 20% reduction of the Minimum Stockholding Obligation (MSO) for diesel and petrol
- temporarily amending Australia’s fuel quality standards to allow higher sulfur levels, to allow around 100 million litres a month of new petrol supply
- more scrutiny and surveillance of the fuel sector, bigger penalties for misconduct, and action to shore up fuel supply
- working with industry to increase fuel supply to service stations, including by helping the fuel sector secure ACCC authorisation to coordinate supply and unlock bottlenecks.
We will temporarily publish on a weekly basis, rather than quarterly, the latest available statistics on fuel stocks held in Australia under the Minimum Stockholding Obligation.
