Security guard dies after alleged assault; man arrested – Sutherland

A man has died following an alleged assault in Sydney’s south overnight.

About 2am (Sunday 25 February 2024), emergency services were called to a licensed premises on East Parade, Sutherland, following reports a security guard had been assaulted.

Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and found a man unconscious outside the hotel.

Police performed CPR before the man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

The man hasn’t been formally identified; however, is believed to be aged in his 30s.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced.

Police were told the security guard was allegedly punched to the head by a patron following an altercation; it’s alleged the patron had been requested to leave the hotel prior to the assault.

Following inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station.

Inquiries continue.
