Security guard dies after alleged assault; man charged – Sutherland

A man has died following an alleged assault in Sydney’s south overnight.

About 2am (Sunday 25 February 2024), emergency services were called to a licensed premises on East Parade, Sutherland, following reports a security guard had been assaulted.

Officers attached to Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and found a man unconscious outside the hotel.

Police performed CPR before the man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene.

The man hasn’t been formally identified; however, is believed to be aged in his 30s.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced.

Police were told the security guard was allegedly punched to the head by a patron following an altercation; it’s alleged the patron had been requested to leave the hotel prior to the assault.

Following inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning death.

He was bail refused to appear before Sutherland Local Court tomorrow (Monday 26 February 2024).
