Seeking funding for recreation projects

Bass Coast Shire Council will apply for up to $1.7 million in funding from Sport and Recreation Victoria, to complete projects in Wonthaggi and Dalyston, worth a combined $3.885 million.

Funding will be sought for two projects, including the Guide Park Redevelopment Project and the Dalyston Netball Court and Pavilion Project.

Council has also earmarked a third project, subject to the release of external grant funding, to deliver the Wonthaggi Soccer Lighting and Pavilion Project.

The estimated cost to deliver the Guide Park project is $1.4 million. Council will apply for a $700,000 grant for the Project, with the remaining funding to come from Council. The Guide Park Project, currently in detailed design phase with the project to be shovel ready in early 2020. If funding is successful, it will be delivered in 2020/21 and provide a regional play space that caters to all ages and abilities.

The Dalyston Netball Court and Pavilion Project will deliver two new netball courts, reoriented to Netball Victoria’s preferred north-south layout and a new pavilion consisting of home and away change rooms, umpires change room, public and accessible toilets, kitchenette, meeting room and storage space. This project will be located within the existing netball precinct at the Dalyston Recreation Reserve. Council will apply for a $500,000 grant to help deliver this Project.

Council allocated $700,000 to this Project in its 2019/20 Renewal Program, however this was deferred to undertake further investigations on the preferred location. If the Grant application is successful, the project will be delivered in 2020/21. The Project is expected to cost $1.635 million, with the remaining funding being provided by Council.

If funding is unsuccessful for this project, Council will allocate renewal funding to deliver two new courts and a new toilet facility and will delay delivery of the new change pavilion while further funding investigations are carried out.

Once released, Council will apply for a $500,000 grant for the Wonthaggi Soccer Lighting and Pavilion Project. This is expected to cost around $850,000 to deliver, with the Wonthaggi Soccer Club contributing $50,000 to the Project and the remaining funding coming from Council. If successful, the project will be delivered in 2020/21.
