Seizure – Illicit Substances – Galiwinku

Northern Territory Police have seized a large quantity of illicit substances bound for a remote community.

Drug and Organised Crime detectives received a report of a charter flight flying from Jabiru to Galiwinku carrying illicit substances.

On Saturday 9 March 2024, Jabiru Police attended and screened the flight of interest. During the course of the baggage search, police located 75 kilograms of kava, 230 grams of cannabis and 10 x 1 litre bottles of rum.

A 62-year-old male has been charged with:

  • Supply kava without a licence
  • Possess commercial quantity kava
  • Possess traffickable quantity of schedule 2 drug
  • Supply less than commercial quantity of schedule 2 drug
  • Bring liquor restricted area

Northern Territory Police continue to urge anyone with information on the supply of illegal substances into remote communities to call police on 131 444 or make an anonymous report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
