Three people have been charged, with six others in custody and assisting police, following extensive investigations into the assault of a boy at Town Common last month.
Around 6.35am on Saturday, 18 July, a 17-year-old boy was located in bushland off Cape Pallarenda Road by members of the public after he was allegedly assaulted and tied to a tree.
The boy was transported to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition.
Following ongoing investigations from the Townsville Child Protection and Investigation Unit as part of Operation Yankee Shadowmark, detectives have charged three people in relation to the matter, inluding:
On 24 July, a 13-year-old Deeragun boy was located and charged with four offences including one count each of deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detain/confine, assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed/in company, grievous bodily harm, torture.
He appeared before Townsville Children’s Court on 24 July.
On 28 July, a 35-year-old Kirwan woman was located and charged with five offences including one count each of deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detain/confine, assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed/in company, grievous bodily harm, torture and driving of motor vehicle without a driver licence SPER Susp (Qld Lic).
She has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Townsville Magistrates Court on 28 September.
A 14-year-old Kirwan girl was charged with four offences including one count each of grievous bodily harm, torture, deprivation of liberty – unlawfully detain/confine, assaults occasioning bodily harm whilst armed/in company.
She has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
This morning, 7 August, another six people have been taken into custody in relation to the matter.
