As the monsoon intensifies over the Northern Territory, the Northern Territory Emergency Service (NTES) is advising Top End residents to take proactive measures in preparation for the forecasted severe weather conditions in the coming days.
The Bureau of Meteorology has said a tropical low is forming over the southern Joseph Bonaparte Gulf, with the potential to deepen near the southwest Top End or northeast Kimberley coasts during the weekend. This is predicted to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms across the north with isolated heavy falls. Squally winds are expected north of the low in the western Top End and Arnhem Districts and Widespread heavy rain across parts of the NT is possible for much of next week.
Director of NTES, Fleur O’Connor, emphasises the need for proactive measures, stating, “Heavy rainfall and damaging winds are expected across the region, with a high possibility of local flooding. We urge everyone not to be complacent; prepare an emergency plan and kit. Planning can save your life and minimise damage to your property and possessions.”

- Prepare a first aid kit.
- Clear your yard and balcony of anything that could be picked up by the wind.
