In anticipation of a visual extravaganza, art enthusiasts and nature lovers are eagerly gearing up for the highly anticipated Simon Mark Exhibition – Up the Macleay. The exhibition, featuring the works of the renowned Macleay Valley artist Simon Mark, promises a captivating display of landscapes that capture the essence of the Macleay Valley’s natural beauty.

The opening event is set to take place on Saturday morning at 10.30am to 11.30am in the Nulla Nulla Gallery Slim Dusty Centre on 25 November and it is expected to draw crowds from near and far. Visit ksc.pub/Simon-Mark for tickets.

Marking his artistic journey, Simon Mark’s collection comprises a carefully curated selection of approximately eighty oil paintings. These exquisite artworks vividly showcase the splendour of the Macleay Valley, encompassing the region’s pristine beaches, rugged coastlines, and rolling pastures. Simon’s unique artistic style incorporates energy, movement, and a seamless flow, bringing the landscapes to life in stunning imagery that resonates with viewers of all ages.

The inspiration behind this remarkable exhibition traces back to Simon’s childhood fascination with the book ‘Art Through the Ages,’ which ignited his passion for art. Since then, he has explored a diverse array of subjects, from figurative to floral, beaches to bush, and even historical figures. Simon’s preferred medium, oil paints, lends a dynamic quality to his paintings, capturing the fluidity of time and the energy of life itself.

“I like to think that you are watching time flowing through my paintings, rather than time stilled,” says Simon Mark. “Understanding astro-physics and the fleeting nature of time has been a significant influence on my work. The landscapes of the Macleay Valley have been my muse for over two decades, and I am thrilled to share my interpretation of this beautiful region with the world.”

Having spent years studying the enchanting landscapes of the Macleay Valley, Simon has carefully translated his observations onto canvas, creating a visual masterpiece that encapsulates the region’s breathtaking scenery. His deep connection with the Mid North Coast is evident in every brushstroke, capturing the vibrant colours of winter farmlands and the meandering rivers that define the area’s natural allure.

Visitors can expect an immersive experience as they traverse the exhibition, encountering paintings that cater to all age groups. Simon’s dedication to engaging young minds with art is evident, with a selection of artworks designed specifically to entertain and inspire children.

“I believe art should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age,” Simon emphasizes. “Through my paintings, I aim to ignite curiosity and creativity in young hearts while captivating the imagination of adults.”

The exhibition is not just a visual treat but a testament to the Mid North Coast’s scenic grandeur. If the French Impressionists were privy to the quality of light in this region, as Simon suggests, they would undoubtedly rush over to witness this breathtaking showcase of artistry.

Art lovers and curious souls alike are encouraged to attend the opening event and immerse themselves in the world of Simon Mark’s Up the Macleay Exhibition. With each stroke of his brush, Simon invites visitors to explore the boundless beauty of the Macleay Valley, making this exhibition a must-see cultural event of the season.
