Port Stephens Council has released its 6-month progress report for July to December 2021, highlighting the achievements in delivering for the community despite the ongoing impacts of COVID-19.
The report provides an update on how Council’s tracking against its Delivery Program 2018-2022.
General Manager Wayne Wallis said he was proud of the way Council has adapted, finding new ways to deliver despite the financial implications of lockdowns, border closures and restrictions.
“Our community remains our number one priority and throughout the pandemic we’ve continued to deliver where it’s needed most, including online support for local businesses, an additional $3 million of priority road repairs and major projects like the new Foreshore Drive bridge, Little Beach boat ramp, Shoal Bay Foreshore upgrade and Boyd Oval,” Mr Wallis said.
“We’ve engaged with residents, ratepayers and businesses on matters like waste, place planning, community wellbeing and more to ensure they have a say in the look, feel and livability of their towns and villages.
“We’ve also been working on enhancing our customer’s experience by developing a Customer Experience Action Plan and transforming our website so it’s more accessible and user-friendly.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant financial implications for Council, with a substantial drop in revenue from our holiday parks, child care services, parking and airport dividends.
“It’s meant we’ve had to remain agile and come up with new ways of working and delivering for our community.
“It’s likely our financial recovery will take some time, but with careful budget monitoring and a prudent approach, we’re optimistic Council will return to a stronger position in the future.”
