Small businesses in Griffith urged to apply for new grant

Griffith City Council, in partnership with Griffith Business Chamber, has launched a new Small Business Financial Assistance Program to help local businesses grow, innovate and strengthen their operations.

Eligible small businesses can apply for grants of between $500 and $2,500 to support business expansion, technology upgrades, training, professional advice, innovation and job creation.

Applications are assessed on a first come, first served basis throughout the financial year, with businesses encouraged to apply early.

The program responds to feedback from the 2025 Griffith Business Survey, which received 133 responses from local businesses. The survey found 52% of businesses plan to expand over the next five years, while businesses identified website design, marketing and social media, business planning and leadership as key training priorities.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said supporting local businesses was vital to the region’s economic future.

“Small businesses play an important role in our community, creating jobs, driving innovation and contributing to the lifestyle we value in Griffith,” Councillor Curran said.

“This program provides practical assistance to help local businesses take the next step, whether that is expanding, improving systems or investing in their workforce.”

The program supports the Griffith Economic Development Strategy 2025–2030, aligning with its focus on a premier destination to live, visit and invest, a dynamic and resilient workforce, and innovative and thriving industries.

Council’s Economic Development Coordinator Karly Sivewright encouraged businesses to speak with Council before applying.

“Our Business Survey showed local businesses are looking for practical support to help them grow. This program is designed to provide that support, and I encourage businesses to contact me before applying,” Ms Sivewright said.

“A quick conversation can help confirm eligibility, strengthen applications and ensure businesses are making the most of this opportunity.”

Eligible applicants must be small businesses with fewer than 20 full-time equivalent employees operating within the Griffith Local Government Area.
