Police have charged a man and impounded his motorbike after an extended follow from Frankston to Spotswood on Friday night.
Officers observed a man wearing shorts allegedly travelling at a fast rate of speed in the Frankston area just before 11pm.
A marked police car attempted to intercept the Yamaha R6, however it allegedly evaded police.
Air Wing tracked the motorbike on the Nepean Highway and Peninsula Link allegedly travelling at 160-200kmh.
The rider stopped for fuel at a service station in Spotswood and allegedly left without paying about midnight.
Shortly later, the motorbike came to a stop under the West Gate Freeway overpass in Spotswood.
An unmarked K9 Unit car stopped in front of the motorbike, preventing it from driving off.
The K9 officer attempted to arrest the rider before the man allegedly fled the scene on foot.
The K9 Unit tracked the man into the West Gate Tunnel construction site and through a tunnel.
Police located the man hiding high up in steel work behind a dust curtain.
Checks revealed the 22-year-old man is a holder of a South Australia motorbike learners permit.
He has been charged with fail to stop on police direction, reckless conduct endangering life, reckless driving, drive at a speed dangerous, theft, drink driving, use an unregistered motor vehicle, and deal property suspected proceeds of crime.
The Frankston man has been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 16 April.
