South Australia will hold a prime spot at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan thanks to an Albanese-Malinauskas Government partnership.

South Australia will partner with the Australian Government to participate in a ‘Team Australia’ showcase.

The theme of the Australian Pavilion is ‘Chasing the Sun’ designed to showcase Australia’s clean energy and low-emissions technologies, while strengthening South Australia’s position as a preferred partner on energy security.

Over 150 nations will participate in the World Expo, with 28 million visitors expected to attend during the event which will run from April to October 2025.

As a gold partner, the South Australian Government has committed $1 million to building upon the importance of the strategic relationship between South Australia and Japan.

South Australia’s partnership with the region is based on significant trade and investment links, strong defence and security ties and a deep affinity between the regions.

The close international partnership was further strengthened when Premier Peter Malinauskas visited Japan on his first overseas trip in October 2022 after winning the election, where he attended several key events with Federal Trade Minister Don Farrell. He was also joined on that visit by South Australian Minister for Trade and Investment Nick Champion, who led another trade mission to Japan in March 2023 to attract greater investment in our food, wine and hydrogen sectors.

Japan is South Australia’s eighth largest export market, with merchandise exports to Japan valued at $634 million for 2023.

The Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement has been in force since 2015 and provides valuable access into the region for South Australian exporters and supports two-way investment opportunities.

As part of Expo 2025, the Department for Trade and Investment will conduct multiple trade visits to Osaka over the course of the event. Further details will be made available at www.dti.sa.gov.au closer to Expo 2025.

As put by Senator Don Farrell

It’s fantastic to see Australia back on the world stage and positioned to showcase the very best we have to offer at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka.

Australia and South Australia have a strong trade and investment relationship with Japan, and by strengthening these ties, we’ll see more trade, more investment and more jobs created in South Australia as a result.

I’m incredibly proud of my home state of South Australia for taking the lead on this global stage.

As put by Nick Champion

Expo 2025 will provide South Australia with the opportunity to network on a global scale as part of the Federal Government’s Australian Pavilion.

SA’s prominent location will enable our State to expand our international trade and investment connections and showcase the support we can offer to companies both near and far.

Being involved in the Australian Pavilion will enable us to promote South Australia’s innovative economy and key sectors of growth that can have significant impact on some of the global challenges we face today, including climate change and health.
