South Australia coronovirus update as at 2 August

There have been two new cases of COVID-19 today. There have been a total of 453 cases reported in SA.

Today’s cases include a female in her teens who has returned from interstate and has been in quarantine since her arrival, and a female in her 20’s who is a close contact of a confirmed case.

Thefemale in her 20’s attended Thebarton Senior College and an after-hours programat Roma Mitchell Secondary College while infectious. Contact tracing iscurrently underway and the Department for Education and SA Health will informanyone who needs to isolate.

Thereare now six active cases in SA and 443 people have been cleared of COVID-19. Therehave been four reported deaths from COVID-19. More than 246,000 tests have beenundertaken.

There is a significantly higher risk of COVID-19 due to current outbreaksinterstate. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, no matter how mild, you needto get tested as soon as possible.

If you know someone with symptoms of COVID-19, encourage themto seek testing. Once you get a test, return home immediately and wait for yourresults. If you receive a negative test result, you should still stay at homeand not attend work, school or childcare until you are feeling well again.

Do not go to public places if you are unwell – this includes work, education, childcare, shopping centres, sporting events, social or religious gatherings.

Everyone must continue to follow measures that will help stop the spread. Practice good hygiene, keep 1.5 metres distance from others and stay at home if you are unwell.

Peopleexperiencing any of the following symptoms should be tested for COVID-19:

  • Fever or chills (in the absence of an alternative illness that explains these symptoms)
  • An acute respiratory infection e.g. symptoms of cough, sore throat, runny nose, or shortness of breath
  • Loss of smell or alteration in the sense of taste
