South Australia Covid update as at 5 January 2022

There have been 3,493 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 19,250 active cases in South Australia.

One-hundred-and-twenty-five people with COVID-19 are currently hospitalised, including 12 people in ICU and one requiring a ventilator.

Of those hospitalised, 75 people are fully vaccinated, 37 are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 13 have an unknown vaccination status.

As at 5 January 2021 more than 100 aged care facilities in SA have reported positive COVID-19 cases, with over 200 positive staff members and almost 200 positive residents across all sites.

    Variants

    Regular genome sampling is taken to monitor the levels of Omicron within South Australia. Eighty one percent of samples taken returned an Omicron result.

    Yesterday, 1,652,094 people checked in using the COVID Safe Check in app.

    COVID testing

    Yesterday, 21,097 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a 1.16% percent increase on the previous 24 hours.

    Vaccination update

    Currently 92.6% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine, 88.2% have received their second dose and there were 14,134 booster shots given yesterday bring the total booster shots to 181,000.
