An unlicenced driver has been fined after being caught speeding at Highbury yesterday.
Just after 11.30am on Monday 12 August, State Traffic Enforcement Section members were conducting laser speed detection duties on Lower North East Road, when they detected a Dodge sedan travelling at 104km/h in a 60km/h zone.
The 26-year-old driver from Greenwith was issued with a $1,538.00 on the spot fine for exceed speed and drive unlicenced. He was also drug tested and provided a positive result to methamphetamine and cannabis and given a direction not to drive for 24 hours.
Inspector Cindy Healey of the Traffic Support Branch said, “It is disappointing considering the high exposure for Operation High Impact F5 that police are detecting motorists exceeding the speed limit. It is clear that some drivers are prepared to put themselves and others in danger by speeding. Police will continue to take action against those drivers who drive irresponsibly.
The driver may face further charges pending forensic analysis of the drug test.
