Splendour in Grass

Byron Shire Council has a very limited role in the organisation of the Splendour in the Grass music festival.

We understand there are very long traffic queues to get into the festival and this has been very frustrating for people and has an impact on local residents and businesses.

Splendour in the Grass has been an annual event for many years in the Byron Shire (with the exception of 2020 and 2021 because of COVID).

It’s a very professional, well-organised event and the safety of patrons is always the key priority for the organisers.

Council, along with the Police and Transport for NSW have a role to play in approving the event’s traffic management plan (TMP) with the aim being to make sure traffic flows smoothly in and around the site. This year’s TMP was approved with a range of measures, signage and systems in place to keep traffic moving.

It has been extremely wet this year and rain in recent days has no doubt caused the organisers some problems in getting vehicles onto the site which resulted in long delays.

Council has no doubt organisers are working as hard as they can to rectify problems.

Festival organisers, Police, Emergency Services, Transport for NSW, Council and other key stakeholders will meet after this year’s event for a debrief to look at ways of improving things for next year’s event.
