Sport clubs invited to champion mental wellbeing

NSW Government

Sporting clubs and organisations wanting to deliver mental health and wellbeing activities for their members can access a share of $2.8 million through the NSW Mental Health Sports program.

Grants of up to $150,000 are for activities that provide mental health, resilience and wellbeing benefits to individuals and groups across the state.

Clubs that support diverse communities such as Aboriginal, culturally and linguistically diverse, and LGBTIQ+ communities, as well as people with coexisting mental health, alcohol or other drug issues, are also encouraged to apply for the funding.

Mental Health Minister Bronnie Taylor said the Mental Health Sports program grants aim to normalise conversations about mental health by taking them out of clinical settings and moving them into the clubhouse.

“We want people talking about how they’re going emotionally and mentally in a setting they are comfortable with,” Ms Taylor said.

“We’re looking to our sporting clubs to inspire people to make their mental health and wellbeing a top priority in 2022.”

Funding applications close Sunday, 6 March 2022.
