Recreation reserves in Buln Buln, Neerim South, Trafalgar and Yarragon have a bright future ahead thanks to completion of two major Netball lighting projects valued at $487,000.
The two lighting projects were officially opened by representative from all three levels of government; Russell Broadbent MP Federal Member for Monash, the Honourable Martin Pakula MP Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Harriet Shing MP Member for Eastern Victoria, Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Mikaela Power, East Ward Cr Michael Leaney and East Ward Cr Peter Kostos.
Opening celebrations took place at the netball courts at both Trafalgar Recreation Reserve and Dowton Park in Yarragon.
Project 1: Spotlight on Netball at Buln Buln, Neerim South and Trafalgar
The scope of works included installation of new 200 lux lighting and towers at three sporting reserves in Buln Buln, Neerim South and Trafalgar.
Funding summary:
- $160,000 – Federal Government through the Community Sport Infrastructure Program
- $ 80,000 – Victorian Government through the Country Football Netball Program
- $ 52,044 – Baw Baw Shire Council through the Capital Works Program
- $292,044 – Project total
Project 2: Sports Lighting Upgrade at Dowton Park Yarragon
The scope of works included installation of four new 30-metre light towers, floodlighting and electrical works to achieve a minimum average up to 100 lux lighting at Dowton Park.
Funding summary:
- $100,000 – Victorian Government through the Country Football Netball Program
- $ 45,000 – Federal Government through the Community Sport Infrastructure Program
- $ 50,000 – Baw Baw Shire Council through the Capital Works Programs project.
- $195,000 – Project total
