Professor Johnston is amongst 25 of Australia’s leading scientists and engineers – which this year includes a record 12 women – to be announced as Fellows.

Professor Johnston said it was an honour to be elected and join this community of scientists and engineers tackling global challenges.

“I am thrilled to contribute to ATSE’s ambitions, from mitigating the impact of global warming on our cities, coasts and native life, to advocating for more women in the top tiers of science and promoting STEM in schools,” Professor Johnston said.

CEO of STA, Ms Kylie Walker, congratulated Professor Johnston on behalf of STA and the 75,000 scientists and technologists she represented.

“This acknowledgement is well deserved. Professor Johnston is a bold, thoughtful and inspirational leader for Science & Technology Australia,” Ms Walker said.

“She is a research leader in her field, and has worked passionately to build a strong and diverse STEM sector in Australia.”
