State Government welcomes committee report endorsing university merger

Importantly, the Government welcomes the committee’s finding that the creation of a new university will advance the economic and social interests of South Australia.

The committee also found the strategies and processes in place to assess and mitigate any risks are thorough.

Throughout the inquiry, the committee heard strong, supportive evidence from the university sector, academics, business groups and the state’s Productivity Commission.

Chair of the Productivity Commission, Adrian Tembel, told the committee the merger would accelerate overdue reforms to the university sector.

Andrew Kay, the chief executive of the State’s leading business group, Business SA told the Committee the merger would help to provide the skills required to deliver AUKUS and other major industry programs.
