Statement on Municipal Monitor’s report

Yarra City Council is currently reviewing the Municipal Monitor’s report which was released today.

Yehudi Blacher was appointed as a Municipal Monitor to Yarra City Council under section 179 of the Local Government Act 2020 in December last year.

He was appointed for a six-month period to guide good governance and provide regular reports and recommendations to the Minister for Local Government, the Hon Shaun Leane MP.

During the past six months, Councillors and the Executive Management Team have worked closely with Mr Blacher.

In his report, Mr Blacher has expressed his appreciation to Councillors and Council officers for their “cooperation and support” during his time as Monitor”.

Council has already made progress on a number of topics referred to in the Monitor’s Terms of Reference, including adopting a new Councillor Code of Conduct and Social Media Policy, conducting a review of our Governance Rules, and implementing changes to improve governance practices.

Council is committed to continuous improvement and looks forward to continuing to work in partnership with Mr Blacher over the next three months.
