Statement On Tangerine Telecom Data Breach

The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman is a free and independent dispute resolution service for residential consumers and small businesses who have an unresolved problem with their phone or internet service. If a consumer is concerned about the safety of their data with a telco, they should talk to their telco directly.

Consumers who have been affected by the cyber-attack on Tangerine, and where Tangerine has confirmed their personal details were disclosed, should be taking extra steps to protect themselves and be on alert for strange activity using their personal information.

If a consumer has a complaint about the Tangerine data breach, they should try to contact Tangerine first. Tangerine can be contacted online through their customer portal, or by calling 1800 211 112, and on WhatsApp at +61 429637422. Consumers who are overseas can contact Tangerine on +61 3 9123 0960.

If a consumer can’t contact Tangerine or is unhappy with their response, they can make a complaint with the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman.

As stated by Ombudsman Cynthia Gebert:

“It can be distressing to learn that your personal information may have been disclosed in a cyber-attack. Consumers who are affected by a data breach should remain vigilant about their personal information.”
