Queenslanders are being urged to stay off the roads and stay home this Easter long weekend to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey today reinforced the Premier’s message that now is not the time to go on a holiday trip.
“We can’t slip up now. Queenslanders have been great so far, eliminating non-essential travel,” Mr Bailey said.
“We want this to be the quietest Easter ever out on Queensland roads.
“If you’re thinking about hopping in the car this Easter, ask yourself: is this essential? If not, hop out.”
Mr Bailey said instead of driving, families could use the opportunity to do some basic vehicle safety checks.
“Spruce up the garden, put on some Netflix and give the car a good once over.
Basic activities that can be completed while at home include making sure:
- tyres are in good condition, with plenty of tread, and are at the right pressure;
- windscreen wipers and washers work properly;
- engine oil, radiator coolant and brake fluids are topped up to the right levels;
- all lights work effectively and can be seen from a distance;
- the horn works and can be heard clearly; and
- all seat belts and child restraints are all in good condition and appropriately fastened.
“Please keep our roads quiet and safe, particularly to keep our essential workers like truckies and first responders moving safely and efficiently.”
