Steve Waugh gives spirit to Kempsey

Steve Waugh opens ‘The Spirit of Cricket India’ photography exhibition at the Slim Dusty Centre in Kempsey.

Cricketing legend Steve Waugh enthralled over 100 guests at the Slim Dusty Centre on Thursday evening with his detailed recount of his time in India as he launched the Spirit of Cricket: India exhibition in Kempsey.

Waugh was at ease mingling with the crowd, posing for selfies, signing autographs and answering questions, before engaging in an entertaining Q&A session to discuss his amazing photographs.

In this vibrant photography exhibition, Waugh from behind the camera lens captures the sport he loves, cricket, in a distinct and unique way.

The exhibition portrays the lively and colourful Indian sub-continent through dozens of shots of incredible moments – from playing cricket alongside monks in front of the Himalayas in the north to beach cricket in the tropics of the South.

Collected over a period of 18 days, the 200+ images which feature in Waugh’s book, also entitled The Spirit of Cricket India, paint a picture of how ingrained the sport of cricket is in the everyday life of India’s population.

Kempsey Shire Council is thrilled to have this exhibition at the Slim Dusty Centre from 8 September to 19 November. It is a brilliant chance for Mid-North Coast locals and visitors to the region to explore this exhibition never previously seen outside of Sydney. Exhibition entry is free.

Steve’s new book The Spirit of Cricket was available for purchase on the evening and donations to the Steve Waugh Foundation were also accepted on the night.
