Stolen car recovered; charges laid at Bega, NSW

Three men will face court today charged with multiple offences allegedly committed in the Bega Valley area in recent weeks.

About 8.30am yesterday (Sunday 18 October 2020), officers from South Coast Police District were patrolling fire trails east of the Princes Highway at Eden, when they came across a Toyota Hilux attempting to recover a Nissan Patrol by winch.

Inquiries revealed the Hilux, which had false registration plates, had reportedly been stolen from Merimbula Airport on Friday (16 October 2020).

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly located hand tools, power tools, fuel and electronic equipment believed to be stolen.

The occupants, two men aged 33 and 37, were arrested and taken to Eden Police Station.

A small amount of methamphetamine in the older man’s possession.

Following inquiries, police attended a motel in Merimbula and spoke to a 26-year-old woman. During a search of the room, officers allegedly located and seized tools, fuel cards, keys, a swag, a portable fridge and cannabis.

The man was arrested and taken to Merimbula Police Station.

The 33-year-old man was charged with take and drive conveyance and three counts of goods in custody.

The 37-year-old man was charged with possess prohibited drug, passenger not disclose driver’s identity, goods in custody and carried in conveyance taken without consent.

The 26-year-old woman was charged with possess prohibited drug, possess equipment for admin of prohibited drug and goods in custody.

The trio were refused bail to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court today (Monday 19 October 2020).
